SALAMANDER OF LYMINGTON IS A LUXURY TEAK LINED 58 FT SAILING YACHT RETURNED IN 2013 FROM A 35,000 NAUTICAL MILE 3 YEAR ROUND THE WORLD VOYAGE, NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE AND CORPORATE SKIPPERED CHARTER IN THE SOLENT AND SOUTH COAST. SALAMANDER HAS NOW SAILED OVER 75,000 NM AND COMPLETED 10 ATLANTIC CROSSINGS.

 

SHE WAS EXTENSIVELY RESTORED PRIOR TO CIRCUMNAVIGATING THE GLOBE, AND HAS ON HER RETURN BEEN CONSISTENTLY UPGRADED EACH YEAR TO MEET CORPORATE AND PRIVATE CHARTERING REQUIREMENTS.

WHAT TYPE OF YACHT IS SALAMANDER OF LYMINGTON ?

What Type of Yacht

Salamander or Lymington is a 1987 Sparkman and Stephens designed 58 ft Nauticat 521, built by Nauticat in Finland. Salamander is a fully equipped ocean going yacht, ready to sail for extended periods between the continents.

 

She is a cutter rigged ketch offering plenty of different sail configurations for a safe passage in most weathers, sleeping as many as 8 people in comfort in 4 teak cabins, plus further accommodation for crew.

 

The ultimate ocean cruising experience, Salamander incorporates the best traditions of Nauticat’s ocean going capability with an inherent classic style. Salamander is the largest in the Nauticat range with the emphasis put on designing a yacht suitable for advanced world-wide cruising. An exceptionally well equipped yacht for extensive cruising in great comfort.

 

The clean hull lines, powerful rig make Salamander perform superbly as an effortless passage maker. She features extensive teak decks with classic traditional looks and for ease of handling she is rigged as a ketch which gives many possibilities to suit all sea and wind conditions.The cockpit layout is designed for comfortable and safe handling of the boat, and the helmsman’s seat is positioned on the portside, giving the helmsman a tranquil and efficient position for manoeuvring Salamander. The cockpit also has good seating to allow up to 9 people to sit in full comfort. The interiors have been built to the highest Nauticat standards that have been developed continuously for more than four decades.

In addition to the exterior helm position Salamander boasts an interior helm position.

​

Salamander is laid out so that all pilotage instrumentation, VHF radio, engine controls and compass are duplicated in the interior helm position, which is a great safety feature.

Guests can view the electronic chart plotter and discuss with the crew places to visit, taking into account the weather and tides. Guests can also discuss Salamander's recent circumnavigation, looking at the route taken on the world-wide charts. 

 

Salamander enjoys a luxurious teak pilot house with large windows all round affording guests a comfortable panoramic view from within whilst the crew handle the sails from the cockpit.

WHERE HAS SALAMANDER OF LYMINGTON BEEN ?

Where has Salamander been >

Salamander safely crossed the greatest oceans in the world, including the Atlantic on six occasions and the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Salamander visited the continents of Europe, North and South America, Oceania, Australasia and Africa.

 

Whilst having a coffee in a cafe in St. Helena, in the South Atlantic, enjoying a break on passage from South Africa to Brazil, we saw two earlier entries for Salamander, entered by her first owner, confirming our suspicion that Salamander was a very capable and well-travelled yacht.

 

Prior to setting off on our circumnavigation Salamander was extensively refitted for us with new rigging, sails, teak decks, the latest modern equipment and electronics. Since then she has been further enhanced and cared for to maintain the highest standards.

Salamander splits her time between the UK for the Summer Season and the Caribbean for the winter where she is also available for those typical warm water blue skies Caribbean Sailing Holidays.

 

Salamander usually departs Lymington for the Canaries in October and crosses the Atlantic with the ARC in November returning to Lymington in May / June each year.

We returned to Lymington three years and 35,000 NM later having circumnavigated the world and having had the time of our lives.

WHAT FURTHER EQUIPMENT DOES SALAMANDER OF LYMINGTON HAVE ?

What Further Equipment does Salamander have ?

Salamander is described as a motor-sailor, enjoying a 135 HP 6 cylinder diesel engine, enabling her to cruise, whether under sail or engine, at the same speed. Huge diesel tankage gives a comfortable range well in excess of 1,500 nm under motor alone.

 

Salamander benefits from 1,800 litres of fresh water, and is equipped with a water-maker as well, producing upto 170 litres of fresh water an hour, if required in addition to the fresh water in the tanks.

 

Further equipment on board Salamander includes a diesel generator to provide power at anchor or when under way, which is supplemented by solar panels and a wind generator.

 

Salamander has a fully equipped galley with generous refrigeration.
